A free-thinking socialist's 2016

Although I have struggled to stay active on my blog and social media accounts this year, 2016 has been quite eventful. It has been interesting to follow the presidential election, even though the results are, to be frank, horrifying. I have been working on some projects, and I hope to be finished with some in the coming year. Let's take a closer look!

I like to do one of these roundup posts at the end of each year, where I go through what has happened in my life the last twelve months, but there is not much to say this time. I have only written six blog posts (seven with this one). However, I promise I will try to do better next year. I have many ideas for articles I want to write, and have had some of these ideas for at least a couple years, so next year will hopefully be better. It is my new year’s resolution to be more active on my blog and social media accounts going forward in 2017 and beyond.

Furthermore, it was a while since I actually published a novel or story of some kind. It was all the way back in 2013 that I published my first two books. Since then, I have had many ideas and have been crafting stories much, much better than my first two, which – let’s face it – were my first two. I am working on several projects, but I have managed to focus on mainly one for a few months now, and I am close to being finished with developing the lore of this fantasy world as well as outlining several epic tales woven into one overarching narrative. It may take a while longer for me to finish this project, but I am aiming for 2017 or possibly 2018.

On a more personal note, I have been working as a substitute teacher for children aged six through nine since August. It has been a nice change of pace from my studies, and I have learned a great deal. My family and I visited China, where my eldest brother currently resides as he has married a Chinese woman. It was quite the interesting cultural experience. We are going back there early next year, so I will compose something about those two trips – and everything else that happened this past year – shortly thereafter.

I have yet to make any extensive comment on Trump’s ascension to power and what I think this means for the future, at least not on the blog. I will try to compose my thoughts on this in early January as the inauguration comes closer. Suffice it to say that I am terrified about the future. Trump is not quite as bad as Hitler, but it is not far from it and he is surrounding himself with people who may just be. Furthermore, the United States of America and its eastern counterpart Russia are in a unique position to destroy the world with their nuclear arsenals. Neither side wants to destroy the world, of course, but Trump seems to be far too ignorant and narcissistic to consider the consequences of his actions. The future is, indeed, frighteningly uncertain, and America’s left must mobilize for all the coming elections, small as well as big, lest America's minorities and working class as well as the world be trampled by the big boots of fascist oppressors.

Finally, I have but one last item on this year’s agenda: To wish you a happy new year! I will see you in 2017!
